Dear Mr. Medina and Mr. Regan,
With regret and after much contemplation, I feel required to resign my position with the UHW, given the imposition of a trusteeship which has removed democratically elected officers and even shop floor leaders such as shop stewards, and impose a new dictatorial administration on the union. The members whom I represent have urged me to refuse to cooperate in a takeover of their union, and I feel the greatest loyalty to them. I went to work for UHW out of my allegiance to the democratic principles upon which it was organized, and I cannot in good faith work for an administration which has completely overturned such principles.
In addition, I have been under continual overwhelming stress with this impending trusteeship and its implications, and my doctor has advised me that I must reduce my stress in order to preserve my health. I believe that working under these circumstances would further damage my health and cause me further stress and anxiety as I would be required as a condition of employment to ignore and work against principles of what a union should be.
